I think it's time for me to start writing on my blog from time to time to give it back its personal touch again.

A case of nostalgia,

A friend of mine approached me on msn and she asked me if I was home. I found this question to be quite irresistible for me to answer in very a different light and also serve as an opportunity to give my friend a =.= moment.

The conversation goes along the line of

Friend: Hey, are you back home?

Me: Well depends on how you define home.

Me: Home for me has evolved from living in a small house quite close to the beach in KB which is near to the Christian and Gurkha cemetery

Me: to living in a house right next to the train tracks here in Melbourne.

Me: Truly, how does one define home anyways?

Me: What is home?

Me: Could the definition of home be found from the traditional viewpoint of Westerners whereby home is defined as a place with white picket fences, green lawn and with someone waiting for you or has home totally taken a new meaning whereby it is a temporary accommodation where one just choose to reside there over a period of time and never permanently because in essence, nothing last forever and everything is temporary

It was then at that moment in time I achieved what I set my self to do, for her to give me the =.= answer

I then decided to proceed to answer her question that yes, I was home at that moment in time.

....

What I fail to tell her was "Physically I am home, but Spirituality I am not"

So the question goes, " Are you home?"

I'm sorry to my sis's who always comes here only to be dissapointed to see that I don't update much. I truely have lost the touch to take photos here. While its easy to take pictures of other sorts, its just not what this blog is meant for. Designed to uniquely capture the importance of light in our daily lives and to show how oblivious we are to these kind of unique environment that is set upon us everyday only because we are all individually too busy with our stresses,jobs,assigments,emotions and demons to even notice it.
Maybe part of the reason that I have lost my touch here is because I feel as If I live a fast pace life and in that, everything just pass me without notice. Unlike home, I live a more relaxed life and see it pass me slowly. Maybe thats why.

Another note to my sister's, yes I am well, doing allright and funilly gaining abit weight back. Go and check my cupboard and all you can see is it being crammed with indo mee and maggie :) and the fridge being fill with Jam,Cheese and Bread. I'm alive still and thats whats important.

Soon I shall me one of the few remaining Bruneians here left in Melbourne whose not going back home. It's hard enough being the only Brunei guy on my campus,and now this? How will I survive I wonder.

I on the other hand have been too far away from the water and hopefully during summer next month,I will be able to travel across Melbourne to check out the scene and sound of the other states. Hitting the beaches with the surf board will be a nice idea.yea yeaaa

Often I ask my self what significant does this blog have on to others , it's just a blog about how I picture life as I go through it. When I got back in Brunei several weeks ago for my holiday, friends come up to me telling me how he or she looks forward to going here checking if I have updated or not. I guess it does bear some significance to others.

It's funny how I can be away from home for several months and come back to the same old looking place yet when I was away from Melbourne for 3 weeks, a lot has changed it. As exaggerating as it may sound, it's a true fact that shows how the pace of life can change so dramatically here and how home will always be home.

Having extreme difficulty to update often because the sun sets at 8pm here.

Coming back to Brunei for me has been quite sad because majority of my good friends have left overseas to continue their studies. Some are in Scotland, Wales and in the UK. This place is nothing more then just fragments of memories left by me, you and everyone.

First and foremost, sorry for the long and overdue post. Just got my internet back after exceeding my 10gig account quota.So my friends,especially my sis's, would be asking hows my life here so far. So far its been still kind to me but assignments are a major pain in the ass. Support here are fantastic and made so many friends that its getting very hard for me to remember their names. One thing I'm really greatful is that everywhere I go, there will always be a friend waiting around the corner. I find it quite amazing how easy it is for me to make friends with Chinese students by just simply swearing in Chinese with them. Chibai, Tiaw ni = friends ahhahaha
Everytime someone ask me where I come from, I would always hesitate to tell them where I come from because...., well here are the normal replies I get from them when I do decide to tell them where I'm from:
1) where's Brunei?
2)oh Brunei, that small dot on Borneo
3) ohhh that cute actor/singer guy whose in Taiwan is from Brunei
4)Oh you're from Burma...
5) Ohh you're from that rich nation with a rich king.
Number 5 is the worst reply I can get because I'm afraid of their perception of all Bruneian being rich and loaded that I might actually increase my chance of being mugged here but thankfully that hasn't happened.
Another problem for me is that alot of people thinks that I'm Indonesian and the Indonesian students/community would start talking to me in their dialect which sometimes I don't get but I do feel honoured to be thought of as an Indonesian. I remember one girl came up to me and ask ''Are you Indonesian?'' and just for kicks, I replied ''Yes I am'' and she said back ''Ohh ok gue Indonesian juga'' and I would straight away give up to avoid further complication by saying ''Ok I lied...'' hahaha
The most memorable quote from my friend to me came from my good Singaporean friend who was mad at me for leaving his BBQ early. He told me ''Chibai go and leave early, you watch out tomorrow during football, I will slide you with both my feet and dick.'' ahahaha I will forever remember him for saying that.

During my stay here, I've written a piece about how's my life here what I'm going through for my teacher back home in Smsa. With the help of a very good friend of mine in Kuala belait, I have managed to write a decent piece on my life here. A big thank you to my editor and I hope you enjoy reading my article.

My Story

So here I am in Melbourne Victoria, million miles away from loved ones & the place I call home. I arrived in the wintery weather in June, my first time studying abroad, in fact, my first time being outside of Asia. I am currently majoring in Business Management & Commerce at the University of Monash & coming here was a huge stepping stone for me to take. Why I decided on Australia you might wonder but before I get into details about that, let me briefly tell you about myself.

All my schooling years, from kindergarten to secondary level has been in St. John's school which I'm glad to say I'm proud of for many things I have achieved there, all the good friends I have made. For my 'O' Levels, I sat for 7 subjects and obtained all credits. From there, I took a step further and sat for my 'A' Levels in SMSA KB. The units I took there were Econs, Geo & Business Managements and was relieved to know that I had obtained satisfactory results, 3 'A' Levels. With those results, I took yet another step further and applied to one of the most prestigious university, Monash and was happy to know I had been accepted. Truth be told, I'm not like some people who are born smart from birth, I'm neither gifted nor brilliant. Sure, I'm saying all this but who's perfect. I'm just an average guy with average thinking ability and capacity, but I try my hardest in everything I do in order to succeed and get through with life. As stated earlier regarding my 'O' Level results, most people would already be praising me, telling me how smart I am, well, 7 'O' Levels - 2 B3's & 5 C6's, which to me is considered as 'cukup-cukup makan' or borderline results but nonetheless, I'm still proud of myself. Same scenario with my 'A' Levels (1 C, 2 Ds) and despite that, I am again, still proud of myself for obtaining those results as I see my glass of milk or Teh Tarik as half full and not half empty. I have always thought of myself as lucky and obtaining such results, I guess I really can consider myself a very lucky person. I used to be somewhat lost as a student and never really knew what I wanted to do in life. One day, little did I know, things would change when I took a quick trip to Mrs. Imelda's office. I would very much describe the conversation as a few slaps in the face and yes, it hit me hard, made me wake up and realise that I needed to stop running back to my comfort zone, rather, to immerse myself in a totally new environment and conquer it. Leaving all things that I'm so familiar with like my friends, family, home and car wasn’t an easy decision but I had to do it because there isn't really a good time for anything and if it wasn't now, then when? Personally, I felt I needed a change in environment and life. Like people say, change can either be a good or bad thing depending on how you handle and how you let yourself adapt to the change.

So back to the question on why Australia. I chose to study here because I wanted to end up at the sunnier side of the world, simple as that. No research whatsoever on universities were done by me, instead my education agent, B Lau, did all the work for me in order for me to get into one of the good universities here and thankfully things went well for me here. This was far more than what I wanted or expected and to be in sunnier, more beautiful environment, I felt everything else just quickly fell into place. My other option was to study abroad in the UK, however, that itself comes with initial challenges such as preparing an extensive explanatory essay on what I want to do with my course and I didn’t want to do such essay. Don’t get me wrong, living life is already hard enough for me but writing an essay on what I wanted to do with my life? Dear god no. Plus if I were to ever go to the UK, it would be because of two things and one of them is to see my favourite band Oasis and last would be to support and watch my favourite team play in the premier league, Liverpool Football Club and then maybe for education.

The point I'm writing this is to let others know what I have done, had gone through with big sacrifices I’ve made here and there before I left for Melbourne and what achievements I have made here so far. One very strong reason for me wanting to study overseas is that I see this as an opportunity for me to be in a new country and start a new chapter in my life. I also see this as a chance for me to be my own man, create my own destiny and search for greater things for me. My wish is to return home a different and better man after I graduate. But like they say, life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you're going to get. So for now, that is my hope and my desire.

I won’t go into too much detail on how the life is in Melbourne because that is for you to find out yourself. I never had the chance to know what Melbourne was like before I chose to study here nor did I want to. I took a chance in something I believe in and stuck with it. That is what life is all about, taking chances in something you believe in. Do your own thing, be like Frank Sinatra. It’s more worthwhile because at the end of the day, you did it your way. I have this motto whereby I choose to live and die by my own sword and not of others. Who we are now was shaped by our past, who we will be in the future will be shape by the decisions and actions we make now. As Liam Gallagher once said ‘’Tomorrow never knows what it doesn't know too soon’’.

What I will say about my life here so far is that Melbourne has been both beautiful and kind towards me. But no matter how great life will be here for me, I will always miss home and everything that comes with it. As I would say ‘’you can take the boy out of KB but you can never take KB out of the boy.’’

I will end this with my personal favourite quote from James Hetfield of Metallica, "Forever trusting who we are and nothing else matters". See ya on the sunnier side of the world!

Yeah its been awhile now since I last update. Sorry guys.
Arrived in Australia A few weeks ago and got my bag sniffed by the immigration security dogs.

The weather in Australia is terrible. Winter plus often out of the blue drizzle rain accompanied by strong winds are never a good combination.

Now I know how it feels like to live in an ice box, I kid you not.
The locations of the pictures I took vary from St.Kilda , Melbourne City and Caulfield.
What do I have to say about Melbourne Victoria? its a beautiful city and full of interesting things to see and do. The only thing that i'm not so use to are the beggars that keep begging for change or cigg's . Oh well what to do.This last picture is for my sis who wants so much to see my room. Yes room for improvement in it so give me time to make it home. I swear the bed it self is way comfortable then the one I have in my room in Brunei.

A big thanks to Pengiran Suffian who let me and my brother in law stay in his place and take us around the city.
Thank you too to the other Bruneians who are also studying in Melbourne and took the time to go out with me and help me settle in here. This goes out to Mamit, kak lina and ayun, Daus 1 and 2, Keem, suryati, asri, faridah and the new frens from all around the world that I met during Monash Orientation

Struggling to make a new post due to a few reasons
1) The internet is down in my house and everyone here, 11 of them, are going crazy without it.
2) Still got things to do here and there that may take up alot of my time here.
3) The sometimes beautiful/awful and unpredictable rainy cold weather here.

Was browsing through my old portfolio and found my old sunset pictures.I think it was back in 2006 that I took all these March sunset photos. Took all these pictures with my Nokia N90, thats only 2 megapixels. All in their original Glory.Sorry if I have posted some of these photos in my previous post, I lose track of the old pictures I have ever posted before.
Come to think of it, I have truly started from scratch. I started with an old school point and shoot film camera to my mobile phone and from there, I moved on to Film SLR and onto Digital.
What makes a good photograph? A good eye and good timing. Its never about what brand of camera you use or how expensive it is. Just a good eye.
I have a lot of photos from my old portfolio in which I will slowly release in the course of this month of March.

Why sunsets? why not anything else? Because its majestic, its romantic, its free, its overlooked , its peace of mind and its inspiring.

I've been asked why do I like taking pictures of the sunset so much, well simply because of two elements present in those pictures and that is Water and Light.Photography is all about the natural lighting for me from the sun.
I remember when Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre , one of the founding fathers of photography, finally captured an image, he said ''I have captured light!''
And what about water? Well I like water and I even asked my carrier guidance chancellor to help me find a university thats near water. I remember she said back ''What?near water? why? for Feng Shui issit?'' and I replied back '' Bukan apa, you know lah studying is a stressful thing for anyone, need to look at water to calm one self and buang stress wah''

Location : Jerudong. At the place where my mom always buys fish whenever we go Bandar.

It's been a heavy,hectic and long day for me this past few days. ITB, UBD SCHOLARSHIP FORMS the itu ini's of the next step in life.
Although my results would be seen as a so and so, nonetheless I see my cawan of teh tarik as half full.

No one ever told me that the most stressful part of form 6 is after you get your results.

Finally got out to take pictures of the sunset and i can see the sun is slowly returning back to its normal sunset position.
I give it a month or two for the sun to properly set near my beach again so in the mean time,I shall improvise.

On the 26 of January,Sheikh Khalid recently held KB first ever blogger's night in Serikandi.

The purpose of such gathering is to get to know other local bloggers that are found in the DST Blogging nation. The Man of the hour Liz from 'KB HAPPENING' became mc for the night and she did a really good job entertaining the crowd. Famous bloggers/photographers like Ucing itam and Anak Brunei was there and I got to know them and shake hands with them and even made one of them take care of my personal belongings while I got out of the restaurant to get my car in the pouring rain,Thanks again Ucing Itam.Sheikh Khalid with Iskandar from 'Iskandarworld'Rano from 'Ranoadidas'

Overall it was a great event and not forgetting the food there was extremely good!

Spent 7 days in KL and I can honestly say that I have overstayed my stay there because I kept on missing home everyday there and especially when I learned from my friends there that it has been pouring rain everyday there. My favorite weather, Rainy days in KB.Part of the plan for staying at my uncles place was to update my blog while i was there but I forgot to bring along my camera's USB cable and because of that, I didn't feel like updating without any pictures to go with the story.
Took the bus from KL central going to the airport and surprisingly it was comfortable and fast. Not kidding, Reached the airport in 40 minutes time and was comfortable because the bus was big, not crowded because there were many buses traveling back and forth from the airport so people have choices as to which bus they want to take and it was only 8rm

A word of thanks to my uncle Sulaiman and his family for his time, home, food and good company. Will always look forward to seeing him whenever i'm in Malaysia.

Pulau Pinang was next on the destination list while I was in Malaysia. It was a 5 hr drive from KL to Penang and i guess it was somewhat worth it because Penang is a beautiful place to visit.
We opted to take the ferry ride to reach Penang instead of using the bridge.
While on the way to this place, I noticed alot of proton cars putting on Mitsubishi stickers and emblems on thier proton cars. I mean whats the deal with that? Nearly all proton cars did that. Hahaha wannabe's.
Slept at my mom's nephews apartment and the next day we headed to Cameron highlands.
You see, problem was I left my camera at place we were staying at the time when we went out. So not alot of pictures from Cameron. I can tell you this, KB is way better then that place. Its dull and the weather there is all thats worth going there. Unless your a strawberry fanatic then be my guest. They got strawberry farm everywhere there and I mean everywhere! They got strawberry jam, strawberry drinks, strawberry pie's, strawberry chocolates, strawberry sweets, strawberry tea's (which is nice), strawberry shirts, don't know about strawberry cars but who knows.

It took us more then an hour to reach to the top of Cameron Highlands and the same going back. Winding roads where ahead of us and it can really make one very car sick.

Kuala Lumpur is a beautiful place at night. Minus all the robbing and mugging that can happen of course during the night.

The sun sets in KL around 7 something here. KB around 6 something. So an Hour difference. One thing about KL I dont like was the fact that the air around there is polluted. Im sick now and somethings wrong with my throat. Sis told me that maybe the polluted air in KL can have something to do with this.

Not a nice start for me in my trip to Kl because I flew with the Devils, The Red Devils to be exact.

Of all the things to hit me right in the face for being a Liverpool supporter and losing to a very lucky goal from Man U, My plane was the Manchester United dressed plane. Damn..

The plane ride was alright and the food served there was great! Love them hotdogs and funny thing to come with it was an instruction manual on to where to put the ketchup, mayo and vegetable with diagram included of course.

Arrived at my uncles condo around 1. Good thing about my uncle's place is that it has a very good view of both the Twin Tower and Menara KL so i will post pictures of them in the next part of the blog.

How does anyone end their week on Sunday? For me, its always the beach or something close to it. Theres always going to the tamu in KB and buy some really good food there and enjoying it ahhaha. As long as it doesn't include the stresses of daily life, then im gold.

Hmmmm back to the normal business on this Saturday morning in December!

I think no matter what kind of digital camera I will own in the future and present, I will still use my N90 to take pictures of all the things that captures my eyes. Why? because my N90 will always be found in my pocket where ever I go. I cannot imagine anyone having an SLR in their pocket all the time hahahah

I see in other peoples blog that whenever they take pictures of their subjects, they would put in the technical Jargon of like ''I took this photo with an ISO 0f 200, Aperture of this , Speed of that '' banyak itu ini lah.

Think I might do that too.

This is my friend Pierre Chew. Born, I dont know where,maybe Brunei kali. Birth date, 15 April.

What is he doing now? He studying in Australia taking umm forgot the name of the course, but I know its related to cooking or being a chef if Im not mistaken.Hospitality something.

First met this hell raiser back in Primary 6, it was during the pokemon gameboys and card times ahahaha.

He is a favorite target amongst teachers in St john's to be scolded and punished.

Always the one to fight back at teachers hahaha. Mrs Matilda will aways be mine and pier's personal favorite teacher to bully and fight with and Cikgu wan,our commercial studies teacher, would be our favorite class to study in mostly because we score good marks in that class and Cikgu Wan would always layan our stupid questions like ...''ehh cher, if i want to start a bank,how oh? '' ohh if like that, you have to start be friending all those Dato as a start'' ahhaha good times.

I remember in Form 5, combine science class, since I dropped Bio and decided to make combine science as a backup for my Physics and Chem class, that he was the only student to able to fully explain the menstrual cycle and what goes on in the EHEM when that happens. Even the girls didnt get full marks on that question, only pier. It goes to show he understands women..eseh.

As you can see from all the pictures I have posted on him, you can see he really enjoys life in St John and his friends

The Fajar Bagus Tribute

Who is Fajar? And why am I dedicating a post to him?

Born on the 25 September,Indonesia. He shares the same birth month as me. But hes younger by 3 years if Im correct.

He arrived on the shores of
Brunei in 2001 and it was in Form 1 in St Johns KB that I first met him.

He spoke little English and communicating with him was hard at first. We tried our best to imitate how the Indonesian people speak but I guess we would end up signing some Sheila On 7 song or at best, Peter pan.

Since St Johns is considered an English school back in the old days, learning English wouldn't be to much of an obstacle for him as his circle of friends are all good English speaking people which includes 2 orang puteh friends hahaha.

We went through alot in St Johns from Form 1 till our graduation Day in 2005. This few pictures are taken back in the St John days. Poor guy, we bullied him alot back then as with any other guys but in the end, we all are good friends.

The thing i remember him most for is his hair. Gila, his hair is ummm hard to explain...ummm very curly... but when ever he cuts it short, he looks like Halle Berry.( Aiman labeled him as that)

Gona miss his car rides and our famous Saturday outing.Famous because I label it so.

In 2006 he enrolled with his good friend onto a Form 6 center in Kuala belait. He made even more good friends there and he stick around with his old pals in SMSA.( of course he does because he will not stop hearing me complain if he doesn't do otherwise.)

This is the most ganas picture I have of him. Gilerr.

At the end of this year 2008, he returned back to his homeland in Indonesia to continue his studies there. Will he come back in the future? For sure hes coming back for his A levels results but after that, nothing is promised.

His friends from SMSA and St Johns will miss him.

This was taken last year 2005 during our O levels break. Place, The beach near my house.

We were bored with our holidays. Come on, we live in KB, not alot goes around this part of the world. We only got ourselves.

We met up at my house to carry Shovels, Buckets and spare clothes. We walked to the beach carrying our inventory and we looked like grave diggers because to other passersby, we looked like we were heading to the cemetery which is also near my house and right next to the beach. Alot of cars pass us that day...sober lah abit.

December 2005, 2006 and 2007

December works from 3 years ago using my Nokia 7610.

I now edit my work using the Photoshop application because bit by bit I'm learning to use it for good use on my photography.

Thank you Ashish Gurung for teaching me how to use Photoshop. He's an experience photographer who is currently residing in Canada. Met him when he was staying in kuala Belait this year.

So December ''apa ada?''

This time of the month the sun set's waaaayyyyy to the left side of the picture. which makes it even harder for me to take pictures of the sunset from my position. SO I have to improvise and take sunset pictures else where other then the beach if can.

Its December and all good memories are made during December. Friends overseas are coming back and am looking forward to seeing them again to see through the last remaining days in December.

Months has passed by since I first started with this blog. This blog was made with the aim of promoting my work, the sunset collections. Aim was to promote awareness to that little place that not alot of people give attention to, the beach.

But when I started this blog, I didn't start it with a proper introduction of my self. So here it is, I'm me. I now use the Olympus 7.1 as my trusty camera given to me by my dad.

This is the neighborhood I have lived in all my life and I like the rainy weather because its cold and the rain cleans the world we live in.

I have a mom, a dad and 3 sisters and alot of nieces and nephews.

I'm 19.

I see life through my own eyes as well as others.

This is where I retire at the end of each and every tiring day of life and its struggles. This is my fortress of solitude.

This is where I play and listen to my musics.

Music is life.

Alot of good memories with my friends live in here.

This is one part of my house where I always run around, jump and take imaginary free kicks, Gerrard style.

From small till now, nothings changed here. People come, People go, the scene is still the same

Let freedom rings at 9am today! Let freedom rings! I finally finished my Alevels exams today. God, A levels exams is not good for anyones health but I guess everyone whose taking form 6 must face it. I tell you this, A levels is not good because it can drive anyone off the edge, so farewell A levels, I do not want to see you anymore. Its been hell with you. Let freedom rings at 9 am today!

I remember telling my friend Hafiz and Hakeem before we took our Geography test yesterday that ''Kalau tuhan mahu aku pass, gerenti aku pass tue'' Atuunya...

Was looking through my previous collection on November sunsets, and there aren't that many. Maybe because back then, I found it hard to take good pictures of the sunset during this month.

What I did however found was this two old pictures the i took 3 years ago if im correct, using my one megapixel phone camera the Nokia 7610.

Decent pictures to me though.
